Joanna L. Nagle, 27, of Colchester, Chittenden County, Vermont, United States has been crowned Miss Vermont USA 2021. She bested 10 other candidates.
The Miss Vermont USA 2021 coronation night took place at The Spruce Peak Arts Center in Stowe, Lamoille County, Vermont. It was the 70th edition of the statewide beauty pageant that selects Vermont’s official Miss USA candidate.
Runner-up to Nagle was Jessie Graves, 25. The respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Paige Carrara, 28, Kathryn Trahan, 24, and Erin McClallen, 19.
Carrara was a Miss Vermont USA 2013 semi-finalist and Miss Vermont USA 2020 second runner-up. McClallen was Miss Vermont Teen USA 2020 second runner-up.
Nagle was Miss Vermont USA 2016 second runner-up and Miss Vermont USA 2017 fourth runner-up. She also won the Miss Photogenic award in 2017.
The newly crowned Miss Vermont USA 2021 is an athlete and a digital marketing strategist. She has been playing ice hockey since she was 8 years old.
The Colchester native played hockey in Colchester High School and the University of Vermont in Burlington, Chittenden County. In 2016, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and obtained her certificate in graphic design.
In April 2019, Nagle started working as a digital marketing strategist at WebMechanix. In September 2019, USA Hockey issued her USA Hockey Coaching Level 4 Certification.
If Nagle wins Miss USA 2021, she will be the second woman from Vermont to represent the U.S. in Miss Universe. The first one was the late Miss Vermont 1953 and Miss USA 1955 Carlene King Johnson, who was a Miss Universe 1955 semi-finalist.
The last time Vermont placed in Miss USA was in 1982 when Georgia Marie Davis finished as a semi-finalist. Representing the state, Mary Verdiani was first runner-up in 1969 and Sandra Bette Taft was a semi-finalist in 1971.
